Jeans are available at a range of prices from fairly inexpensive to very costly. Regardless of how much you’ve spent on a pair of jeans, however, its always worth following proper care procedures so your pants last longer. After all, the longer your jeans last, the less often you’ll be spending money to replace them. Here are some tips to extend the life of your jeans, so you can spend less on clothes.

First wash – When washing your jeans for the first time, replace your regular laundry detergent with a cup of white vinegar, then wash the jeans in cold water. This will help set the color so the jeans will look newer for longer.

Subsequent washes – After the first wash, jeans should always be washed inside out to help preserve the look of the denim. It is recommended that you continue using cold water for all subsequent washes as warmer wash temperatures may cause the garment’s color to fade over time.

Drying – Avoid drying your jeans in a dryer whenever possible as heat can break down any stretch fabrics present in the jeans. Instead, reshape your jeans manually after each wash, then lay them on a flat surface to air dry.

If you want to save money on clothing, think of your jeans as a long-term investment. Properly cared for jeans have a much longer lifespan, meaning you won’t need to spend as much money constantly replacing them.
